Our Objectives

At Better Communities Bradford (BCB), our work is driven by a deep commitment to building stronger, healthier, and more inclusive communities across Lidget Green, Scholemoor, and Great Horton. Our objectives reflect our evolving work while staying true to our original mission of addressing inequality, deprivation, and social exclusion.

1. Empowering People and Building Skills
We support individuals—particularly women and marginalised groups—to develop confidence, leadership, and practical skills. Through mentoring, digital literacy, vocational training, and enterprise support, we aim to reduce unemployment and promote economic independence.

2. Education and Lifelong Learning
From language and IT classes to youth leadership programmes and other local partnerships, we foster a culture of learning and aspiration. We prioritise access to learning for all ages, particularly for those who have been excluded or underserved.

3. Mental Health and Well-being
We deliver culturally competent, trauma-informed mental health support through therapy, group sessions, and community-based workshops. Our health initiatives also include fitness programmes, nutrition classes, and projects that address emotional and physical wellbeing.

4. Strengthening Social Inclusion and Civic Participation
BCB creates spaces where individuals can be heard, valued, and actively involved in shaping their communities. We focus on reducing isolation, especially among women, and ensuring diverse voices are represented in local decision-making.

5. Fostering Social Cohesion and Tackling Discrimination
We champion racial and religious harmony, deliver anti-hate workshops, and support those impacted by anti-Muslim hate and other forms of discrimination. Our interfaith and intercultural programmes aim to build trust, challenge stereotypes, and foster unity.

These objectives guide every aspect of our work—from frontline services to strategic partnerships—ensuring that the communities we serve are equipped not just to survive, but to thrive.
